GI Joe Cartoon: A Quick Look at the Famous TV Series of the 80s
During the 1980s, a lot of young and adult couch potatoes were hooked by the GI Joe cartoon series. Titled G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, each episode of the animated show ran for half an hour. It is based on a comic book series and Hasbro’s successful toy action figure series with the same name. The animated TV series was created by Ron Friedman, who wrote four mini-series for the show.
The TV show’s premise revolves around the good versus evil theme: a trained American military special force team is tasked to save the world against Cobra, a terrorist group that seeks to dominate the world. The special force group consists of personnel from all sections of the American military.
The term G.I. Joe refers to the code name used for that group. The cartoon series involve use of advanced weapons and physical fighting scenes.
The GI Joe cartoon series started with two five-part mini-series in 1983. The next year, the series was created as a five-part special titled G.I. Joe II: The Revenge of the Cobra. From 1985 to 1987, it became a regular syndicated series.
The G.I. Joe TV series went into the silver screen with the G.I. Joe: The Movie in 1987. Two years later, G.I. Joe did a comeback with the mini-series Operation: Dragonfire. Two more seasons were shown on the television in 1990 and 1991. The series lasted until 1995 on the USA network.
Critics hailed GI Joe cartoon series because of its exceptional audio and video scoring, voice cast, and animation.
