How the GI Joe Movie Came to Be

by Dave

GI Joe action figures, cartoons, and comic books are parts of every young boy’s childhood who grew up in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The young boys back then idolized the Joes who constantly fought against evil forces.

If you are also a GI Joe fan, you have probably heard about the new GI Joe movie. Maybe you have even watched it already because it has already premiered in Tokyo, Japan. The event was attended by the movie’s cast.

The GI Joe movie was developed by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a film producer and a former CEO of Warner Bros., and by Brian Goldner, the CEO of Hasbro. Hasbro is the toy company which created the famous GI Joe action figures. Bonaventura thought of producing a film featuring high technology military equipments and Goldner recommended his GI Joe characters for the film. This is not the first time that the two worked together. After they agreed to use Hasbro’s GI Joe toy line, they selected Michale B. Gordon, the screenwriter for the movie 300, to write the script for the movie.

There is a new character in the new GI Joe movie which is not included in the cartoons and comic books. Hasbro gave the name Rex to the new character. Bonaventura was the one who decided to have a new character because he wanted the movie to trace the origins of some of the Joes, especially Duke.

This all happened in 2003 and after six years in the making, the movie was finally be released on August 7, 2009.

GI Joe costumes are anything but traditional for the new live action movie. The characters in the movie do not look like regular soldiers. They look more like special cops. For the new movie, GI Joe costumes are all black – not just typical black uniforms but skin tight black overalls.

GI Joe Costumes from the New Live Action Movie

by Dave

Men who were born in the 80’s probably grew up playing with their GI Joe action figures, reading GI Joe comic books, or watching GI Joe cartoons. Who would forget the line from the GI Joe cartoons “Knowing is half the battle” which was stated in a public service announcement every time one episode ends? You have probably learned a lot of advice from the Joes—from being lost and petting strange dogs to burning houses and first aids.

The people behind GI Joe decided to create a movie based on these toy soldiers. The title of the new GI Joe movie is GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra. Cobra is the name of the organization which the Joes constantly fight with. Many people, especially GI Joe fanatics, are waiting for the movie’s premiere. It has already been shown in some major cities all over the world.

GI Joe fans all over the world are eager to see their beloved characters being portrayed by modern actors and actresses. And of course, they also want to see the GI Joe costumes. If you are expecting the old-fashioned camouflage soldier uniforms worn by the Joes in the cartoons way back then, you are in for a big surprise.

GI Joe costumes are anything but traditional. The characters in the movie do not look like regular soldiers. They look more like special cops. For the new movie, GI Joe costumes are all black—not just typical black uniforms but skin tight black overalls. This costume makes the Joes look sleeker and sexy, which is not really a bad thing.
